Overview

This tour is all about wonderful chance to explore cultural heritages and historical places in and around Lhasa, Tibet. Two blissful days are packaged in your trip for exploring the charismatic wonders of Lhasa and a day is kept free for your own exploration.

Lhasa, most popularly known as ‘Sunlight City’ is regarded as the heart and soul of Tibet. This is why Lhasa is considered the number one tourist destination in Tibet. Visits to white and ochre fortress of Polala Palace and Jokhang temple can be quite spiritually rejuvenating experience. Potala Palace is a UNESCO world heritage site and features an overwhelming array of intricate murals, temples, Stupas, tombs of past Dalai Lamas, exquisite Tibetan Mandalas and other relics of Tibetan history. Jokhang temple lying 2 km to the east of Lhasa is another Tibetan religious site. If you wish to glimpse into Tibetan culture, what could be more insightful than exploring Barkhor markets.

Itinerary

Day 01: Fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa (3,650 m)

From Kathmandu, we take an hour-long trans-Himalayan flight to Lhasa, Tibet. The flight takes us over Mt. Everest (8,848m), Kanchenjunga (8,536m) and other Himalayan peaks and a number of Himalayan glaciers. Upon our arrival in Lhasa, a representative from Incredible Adventure Nepal will pick us up from airport for about an hour’s drive to our designated hotel in Lhasa. We are advised to take plenty of rest for the remainder of the day in order to acclimatization. Overnight stay in Lhasa.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Lhasa: 5-6 hrs.

Our sightseeing tour in Lhasa will commence in the morning, after breakfast. We visit the beautiful Potala and Norbulingka Palaces. Build in the 17th century, Potala Palace provides amazing views of the entire city. The Palace houses the private quarters of the Dalai Lama and numerous grand state rooms and chapels. Norbulingka Palace is the summer palace of the Dalai Lama that houses the largest man-made garden in Tibet. Next, we visit the Tibet Museum, the official museum of Tibet, which has a collection of around 1,000 artifacts related to the cultural history of Tibet. Overnight stay in Lhasa.

Day 03: Second day sightseeing in Lhasa: 5-6 hrs.

After breakfast, we visit Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Bazar. Drepung Monastery was built in the 14th century and is believed to have sheltered around 10,000 monks in the past. The history, culture and religious beliefs on the Tibetan people are strongly concentrated and centered in this marvelous monastery. Sera Monastery is a preserved monastery of white-washed walls and golden roofs. Jokhang Temple is another important sacred site which unravels more mysteries of Tibetan Buddhism.
